Alan enjoyed a career in education for over 33 years both in England and in Guernsey. He was a teacher in mainstream and special schools and Local Authority support services in and around the West Midlands, before moving to Guernsey in 2001. He then worked as a Headteacher before moving to the States of Guernsey civil service as Deputy Director of Education before being appointed as Director of Education in 2012.He retired from the post at the end of 2017.
He has extensive experience of working with people from a wide range of backgrounds. This obviously has included parents and pupils but also a wide range of educational, health and social care professionals. In his senior positions Alan has also worked with lawyers, union officials, architects and project managers in addition to civil servants and politicians from across the U.K. and other crown dependencies. He has substantial experience of working with third sector organisations.
Through his varied roles Alan has been involved in counselling, coaching and conflict resolution for many years. He has developed the comprehensive and highly effective skills and personal qualities, required for successful mediation.
Alan is a registered mediator for Workplace, Civil and Commercial Mediation with the Civil Mediation Council and is also a member of the Society of Mediators.
He is able to provide a wide range of mediation services in Guernsey ,Jersey and the U.K. Alan also has a network of registered mediator colleagues that he can call upon when required for co-mediation in complex cases or for those with several participants.
